I. Organization moment (2 minutes)

Teacher:

Good morning, dear students.
How are you today?
I hope everyone is ready for the lesson.
Please prepare your books and notebooks.
Today we are going to speak about an important topic.

II. Introduction of the Lesson (3 minutes)

Teacher:

Our lesson today is called “English – the World Language.”
English plays a very important role in modern life.
We use it in education, technology, communication and business.
Today you will read a text, learn new words
and make dialogues in pairs.

III. Competency

Competency: The pupils should make up a dialogue and use it in their speech.

Teacher explains:
By the end of the lesson you should be able to
discuss the importance of English
and express your ideas clearly in dialogues.

IV. Vocabulary Work (5 minutes)

Teacher: Let us learn new words from the text. Listen and repeat.

Students repeat and make short sentences with 2–3 words.

V. Reading – English – the World Language (8 minutes)

Teacher: Now read the text silently. Do not translate word by word. Try to understand the main idea and important facts.

(After reading)

Teacher: What is the text mainly about? Why is English called the world language?

Students answer briefly.

VI. Reading Comprehension – Exercise 1 – Complete the sentences (6 minutes)

Correct answers:

  1. English is the world language of communication.
  2. English is spoken in many countries.
  3. In America more than 226 million people speak English.
  4. If you want to be a pilot and a businessman, you must learn English.
  5. People of different nationalities send messages in English.
  6. Americans, Italians and British are people of different nationalities.
  7. Many languages use English words.

Teacher checks and explains.

VII. Grammar Practice – Exercise 2 – Three forms of verbs (5 minutes)

Teacher: Write the three forms of the verbs.

Teacher asks students to make one sentence with any verb.

VIII. Speaking – Asking Questions – Exercise 3 (4 minutes)

Teacher: Make questions to get more information.

IX. Discussion – Importance of Learning English (5 minutes)

Teacher:

Students give 2–3 sentence answers.

X. Pair Work – Dialogue – Exercise 5 (5 minutes)

Teacher: Read the dialogue and make your own one. Your dialogue should have at least 4–5 lines.

Students work in pairs and present dialogues.

XI. Translation – Exercise 6 (3 minutes)

Students use dictionaries.

XII. Group Work – Exercise 7 (4 minutes)

Teacher: Make groups of four pupils. Discuss the following:

  1. Your first English lesson
  2. What kind of discussions your English teacher organizes
  3. Which activities help you learn English better

XIII. Reflection and Assessment (2 minutes)

Teacher:

Teacher gives feedback and marks active students.

XIV. Homework

  1. Write a short dialogue about learning English (6–8 lines).
  2. Write 8–10 sentences about why English is important for your future career.
